St Stephens Church Covid19 News

Hi St Stephen’s,
This is a reminder that our annual meeting is being held tomorrow at 7.30pm, with a few different options of how to attend. Please do whatever you’re most comfortable with.
In person
There is plenty of room for many of us to sit safely socially distanced in church, and this is still permitted within restrictions tomorrow, so if you want to come down you’re welcome. Please arrive just before 7.30, wear a face covering, and note that sadly households won’t be able to interact with one another.
Online on Zoom

Notices for church congregation
As of 01/10/2020

Today, the 1st November, is …….. ‘All Saints Day’ (which is why yesterday was ‘All Hallows Evening’ [or Halloween]) and we remembered the example of those faithful believers through the ages – and in the present. You can find the service here:
The notices for this week are below.
  • 24/7 Prayer Week starting today – We are going to try to fill 24 hours for 7 days with prayer
You can sign up for one hour, or a few hours, or maybe even an hour a day on this link: . Perhaps you could do it with someone else on the phone or on Zoom or on a socially distanced walk?
You can also find loads of helpful resources that Molly has put together on
  • APCMs and elections – St Stephen’s meeting is Tuesday 3rd November at 7.30pm, St Matthew’s meeting is 9th November 2pm. These are planned to be in church – with the option to join via Zoom

Meeting ID: 416 578 5567
Passcode: ststephens
We will need to elect churchwardens, PCC members, and diocesan synod reps – as well as respond to reports.
However, with new news of a fresh lockdown from Thursday St Matthew’s PCC will have to be done on Zoom alone. Reports will be posted/delivered this week.
  • New Lockdown – For the next 4 Sundays we are no longer allowed to gather for even distanced worship so we will return to the live streamed format from earlier in the year. This is a huge disappointment – not least for those who find streaming difficult – but for the sake of all we are being guided to reduce any opportunities of contact that might put people at risk. If this works well enough though it might open up some chance of worship at Christmas. We hope and pray so.
Stay faithful, stay well, stay loving

If you want to catch up on this morning’s service, you can find it here
Remember there is the option to attend the service in person at St Stephen’s, for those who can’t watch at home, for those who live alone, or for anyone else who would value coming to be in that space with others – we have room for more!
Here are the notices for today:
Worship Evening TONIGHT 6-6.45pm at St Stephen’s, and Worship Playlist
It’s not too late to come along, it would just help if you reply to this email or text Hannah on 07985915109 to let us know so we have enough stuff (though we’ll have some spare so if you decide at the last minute, just come!).
If you can’t come but still want to join in worship, there’s a playlist of some of the songs we’ll be listening to here
24 hours of prayer TONIGHT/TOMORROW
Starting tonight at 8pm, sign up for a slot here
Harvest next Sunday
If you want to give a Harvest gift, you can drop food bank donations off at St Stephen’s Church this week, or we’re inviting you to add some items to the food bank collection basket at your local supermarket (there’s one at Morrison’s near the entrance now).
Instead, or as well, you might like to consider giving a harvest financial donation to St Stephen’s or St Matthew’s church – you can do this in person if you come to church, online if that’s how you usually give, or by passing in a labelled envelope to Jimmy or Hannah (let us know if you need help getting it to us).
APCMs (annual meetings)
St Stephen’s meeting will be held on Tuesday 3rd November at 7.30pm
St Matthew’s meeting will be held on Monday 9th November at 2pm
These are the meetings where we hear an update of what’s been going on in church over the last year (or 18 months in this case due to coronavirus delays!), and elect churchwardens and PCC (church council) members. More details to come, but we’re hoping to have the option to attend either in person at church or online on Zoom.
Please pray about who you think could serve our churches on PCC and as churchwardens. If you want to nominate someone (please ask them first!) you can use these forms, or ask for printed copies.
Here is the prayer we shared today:

Almighty God,

you have made us for yourself,

and our hearts are restless till they find their rest in you:

pour your love into our hearts and draw us to yourself,

and so bring us at last to your heavenly city

where we shall see you face to face;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,

Praying you can find that rest in Jesus this week.
